Details and News:

The family camping trip to New Brighton this year was amazing!!!  We had over 50 students attend with their families and siblings - with such a large group, it was great for our children to meet and make new friends, as well as giving parents the opportunity to get to know new faces and bond in this community as well.  Thank you for embracing each other in our new larger community! As we ended our time with the children in our reflections and traditional compliment circle, we heard the joys of playing and friendship, love of nature and fun projects.  Along with the joys, there were also some challenges (the parking fiasco!) thank you to all for your patience as we rallied together to find solutions. We will definitely be pro-active next year regarding the new enforcement of limited cars allowed.

We are looking forward to beginning our classes next week!  Please make sure all registration is complete before classes begin. Students who have not completed their InfoSnap registration will not be able to participate in classes until it is complete.

We would like to officially welcome our new teacher, Gillian Blair to Quail Hollow Homeschool.  She comes to us with a passion for teaching and working with families,

a ton (or kilo) of knowledge in math, love for the outdoors and energy to join our fabulous homeschool program.  Yay Gillian!!!

Counselor Update:  We have a new counselor this year who is fully hired and ready to start!  Her name is Jennifer Sims, and we have her for 20% of her contract.  Look for more information in the near future to meet her.

AND!  We now have a math tutor.  His name is Aaron Shaw and he is a  former Nature Academy student, currently in his last year at San Jose State.  He will be working for us on Mondays from 12-3:30 in portable 5 with Brian; primarily to support students in Math 1 & 2.  He will also be working for us on Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 in Marcy's portable 28, primarily to support students in grades 6-8.  Right now, it is set as a drop in, but if he become too busy, we may have to schedule a sign up situation for the Thursday sessions.

Huge Fundraising Opportunity!!!

Toyota Drive for Schools

This is our biggest fundraising opportunity of the year.  Please get some booklets from any of our teachers and sell as many as you can -

all money raised stays 100% in our program!

Tickets are $5 each or a book of 6 is $25

Resource Center: The Resource Center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am-3:00pm, and on Wednesdays from 9:00am-2:00pm. Like last year, it will be closed on Fridays due to many off site events, with the exception of the Friday when paperwork is due. Two new items regarding the RC:

  1. The RC will be closed on Mondays, so teachers can meet with families, prep for classes, etc. and give their full attention to those tasks.

  2. The RC will be staffed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday by a teacher who is available to organize items, lead an activity, assist families in finding resources, offer homeschooling guidance, and have some unscheduled time available to families. Tues: Katie-Block 1, Amber-Block 2, Wed: Gillian, Thurs: Martha

Benchmarks:  Please make every effort to get these turned in by the end of next week if you have not done so already.  If you need assistance or have any questions, please ask a teacher.

Costume Parade and Fall Celebration/Craft Day!

This year our Halloween Extravaganza falls during our week break between block classes.

This is a parent participation day : )  We welcome parent volunteers to lead crafts.  It is helpful to have 4 or 5 “stations” with a different craft at each table or room.  We can use 2-4 parent helpers at each station, depending on the craft.  The crafting will start at around 11:00am.  Please indicate on the sign-up sheet (located in the Resource Center on the bookshelf next to the fridge) if you would like to lead a craft or assist.

  • Just a Reminder:  All costumes must be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with safety.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for a school with young participants.  Weapons (including "fakes" made from cardboard, plastic, wood, etc.), skateboards and roller blades/skates are not allowed as part of costumes at school.

Here is a rough schedule of how our day will look ~

9:30 gather and gawk at each other : )

10:00 "parade" and pictures

10:30 snack

11:00 - 1:30 crafting/lunch/outside play - pick up time

1:30- 2:30 pumpkin carving (Parents need to be present if their child participates)

Heads Up!

Our Winter Holiday Craft Fair will be held on Friday, Dec. 4.

Start crafting!
