Quail Hollow Homeschool
December/ Newsletter 2016
Resource Center phone number: 336-9439 ~ Room 17 phone number: 336-5168
We have our Winter Break from December 19th until January 4th. Our first day back to record homeschooling will be Tuesday, January 5th. Although onsite classes don’t start until February, there will be events scheduled throughout January so our community can spend some together. Please note these dates on your calendars! January is a wonderful time to focus on those Science Fair projects! We look forward to our semester evaluation/planning meeting in January with each of you.
As most of you know by now, Teacher Martha will not be coming back next semester. She will be reducing her contract at QH Homeschool. She has loved her time at the school. However, her new books have just come out and she really needs to focus her attention on her Teacher Training jobs. A new teacher will soon be hired and she will be able to assist in transitioning her families during their January conferences.
This information was sent out from Rhonda by email and is included in this newsletter
As many of you know, Senate Bill 277 becomes law as of January 1, 2016. SLVUSD Charter staff have been fielding many calls from concerned families with questions about the implementation of SB 277 and what that means for Charter Students.
Effective July 1, 2016, students who attend public or private school can no longer be exempted from vaccinations based on personal beliefs. Exemptions on file for a child already attending school will remain valid until the child reaches the next managed checkpoint: kindergarten, seventh grade, or a transfer to a new district. An eighth grader who has a personal belief exemption on file before January 1, 2016, may remain in a school in the same district without being vaccinated for the remainder of their high school years.
As a California Public Charter School, we are required to follow the immunization guidelines set forth by the California Department of Health. Please visit the Shots for Schools website for the most recent information regarding the requirements for immunizations at http://www.shotsforschool.org/, or contact your local health department.
Thank you for your attention to this. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions specific to your child.

Join us for our fourth year hosting this incredible event!
Share, teach and explore a skill or activity with others….
The idea of this event is to introduce our families to new experiences and inspire them to open themselves to new artistic expression, skills and crafting. This is an especially great opportunity for children to teach something they know about, which is a huge boost to their knowledge and confidence! Parents are also invited to teach, facilitate and/or demonstrate as well.
Here are some previous Make-O-Rama activities:
Book-binding (blank pages for a journal/story), Origami, drawbots, comic bookmaking, simple drawing lesson (horses), Lego lesson, Pizza dough, Paper airplanes, Sewing instruction, hand and machine, Sculpey clay, sewing stuffed animals, and more!
The Specifics: The facilitators/instructors of an activity will have table space (a whole table) and chairs placed around the table for participants to sit at. Each activity will be approximately 10-20 minutes in length. You choose how many people you feel comfortable with at your table.
Is your activity longer than 10-20 minutes? There is the possibility we may be able to have a “workshop” session at specific intervals and participants sign up for the workshop. Example: If someone wanted to facilitate a painting technique and needed an hour, they could potentially set up in Room 14 and have 2-3 sessions at 1 hour each. Workshops could also be age or level specific.
This fun event is open to all SLV Charter students, parents, teachers and community members. To sign up and RSVP for a table, or if you have any questions, Please email Amber Walker at email@example.com
